Engineering Manager

The Job:

moovel North America is an urban mobility company helping make cities smarter. We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager who is interested in delivering world-class products to transit agencies and users throughout the world. The Engineering Manager will oversee a cross-functional team who is responsible for the on-time delivery of high quality software. The ideal candidate has a unique balance of technical expertise and leadership skills, as well as a passion for building great teams.


What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leading an agile team through the delivery of new products and services, as well as their ongoing support and maintenance
  • Helping the team understand their goals and the underlying business strategy
  • Inspiring, mentoring and setting expectations for team members
  • Making sure the team has clear priorities and can meet deliverables
  • Ensuring processes, best practices and technical strategies are carried out
  • Ensuring code meets functional requirements and quality standards
  • Reviewing business priorities and appropriately optimizing approach and resourcing
  • Continually improving the output of the team, working with the team to find ways to improve outcomes and deliver value
  • Working with the engineering team to make architecture and technical solution design decisions
  • Shipping code regularly as an active member of the team
  • Supporting AWS infrastructure development and maintenance
  • Facilitating daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog grooming (shared with Product Owner)
  • Managing technical and delivery risk, proactively escalating and proposing mitigation strategies
  • Collaborating with Product, Business Development/Sales, and Accounts teams to develop a deliverable Product Roadmap
  • Addressing challenges and proposing solutions to issues shared by the team
  • Performing basic line management responsibilities such as PTO approval, performance reviews, etc.
  • Ensuring operational efficiencies through analysis of third party software and infrastructure usage
  • Other duties as required by the company


Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject, or combination of equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of hands-on development experience
  • 4+ years of Android development experience
  • 4+ years in a leadership position
  • Proficiency in Android development (Kotlin & Java)
  • Strong track record of successfully delivering software projects on time
  • Practical experience with multiple programming languages, frameworks and paradigms
  • Expertise in agile development, including continuous integration and continuous delivery
  • Knowledge and practical experience applying software quality principles and practices
  • Understanding of automated test frameworks (JUnit, Mockito)
  • Experience with micro-service, service-oriented, and mobile architectures
  • Understanding of RESTful principles
  • Experience supporting production applications and services
  • Experience with RoomDatabase & SQL query languages
  • Experience with Dependency Injection and Inversion of Control design principles

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence or similar tools
  • Understanding of mobile application publishing
  • Familiarity with end to end encryption and secure storage
  • Familiarity with the AWS technology stack
